Career Talk#4: A Career in Equity Research

On January 28, 2011, Miss. Pattawan Phanussopakul, BBA#12, Investment Analyst at CLSA, and Mr. Apichet Kiatworakun, BBA#12, Research Associate at Macquarie, have kindly paid a visit to BBA to tell their roon nong about what it?s like to have a career in Equity Research.

 

Starting with their background and experiences, then the stories of how they have ended up working in this field to the Day in the Life of an equity analyst includingwork-life balance, interactions with clients, challenges encountered, compensation and career path. Moreover, they have shared their viewpoint regarding the profession and give a neutral glimpse on the differences working in consulting, investment banking and equity research industry to help guide BBA students on deciding their career.

 

Moving on to the more interactive part, we have discussed about the interview process and what makes a good analyst as well as what kind of characteristics and skills are a good fit for the industry. The discussion ends with advices to fourth-year BBA students on taking your time to find what you want to do and choose the career that you are most comfortable in and are passionate about - because this job highly involvesself-dependency and taking significant amount of data and turning it into sound bites daily, while you would develop a broad and sound understanding of the equity market both as a group and individually.
