Have you ever wondered how people live in prison? From my own perspective, I first thought that life in prison must be very cruel. However, on March 17, 2009, the day we went on study trip to visit the prison as part of the business law class activities, my perspective has changed.
As soon as we arrived at Thonburi Remand Prison, we received a very warm welcome from the prison officers. They guided us along the way and explained so many facts about the inmates and the condition of their living. Throughout the past history, prison had been a place where convicted criminals were punished for their wrongdoings. Today, however, with increasing concerns about human rights, prison today serves similar purposes to school, where wrongdoers are sent there to get training in technical skills-- hair cut, music, painting, computers etc. After this trip, I come to learn that inmate lives are not horrible as we always think, but are merely lacking an opportunity to do whatever they want to do freely.
